Florida Government Officials Likely To “Pull The Plug” On WrestleMania

That doesn’t sound good. We are just over three weeks away from the scheduled date of WrestleMania 36 but at the moment, things are not looking very positive. There is a real chance that the show will not be taking place, as the worldwide spread of the Coronavirus may cause the show to be canceled. The decision currently lies in WWE’s hands, but that could change in a hurry.

This past Thursday, the Tampa, Florida city government announced that they would be making a decision regarding WrestleMania 36, assuming that WWE did not make the decision in the first place. However, WWE has said that they will be continuing on with the show for the time being. That would suggest that the ball is in the government’s court, and they might make a decision in the near future.

According to FOX 13 (Tampa), Hillsborough County Commissioner Les Miller said in a Friday interview that if WWE does not change course and cancel the show, the government would have to “pull the plug” and cancel the show themselves. WWE has said that they are working on contingency plans for the show should it be canceled. At the moment, it is not clear what WWE has in mind as a backup plan.

Opinion: The more you look at it, the more likely it seems that the show is canceled. However, with the likely financial impact of all of the insurance issues that come with it, can you blame both sides for not wanting to cancel? At the end of the day, I would assume that the government cancels the show but I’m not sure what is going to happen as a result. I think we will see WrestleMania in one form or another, but it will be interesting to see what comes out.
