The more things change, the more they change. Earlier this week, Rey Mysterio announced that he would be challenging United States Champion Samoa Joe at WrestleMania 35. Mysterio has never held the title so there was already a built in story. However, there was another story that was originally planned for the show which might have tied into things a bit better.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plans for WrestleMania 35 saw Mysterio facing Andrade in a mask vs. hair match. The two have been feuding for a few months now and have both tried to win the United States Title on multiple occasions. There is no known reason for why the plans were change, nor are there any current plans for Andrade on the show.
This is the kind of thing they could do. Check out their first major showdown:
Opinion: I’m not sure we’re done with this story year as the Mysterio vs. Andrade match is something that has a lot of merit. Maybe they’ll do it at the next show or even later on as a title vs. hair match if Mysterio beats Samoa Joe. Either way, it seems like a layup of an idea and WWE would be missing a major opportunity to not run with it at some point. They don’t have to do it immediately though, and that’s fine.
