It would be a big deal. AEW is the second biggest wrestling company in the United States at the moment and one of the biggest in the world. That isn’t bad for a company that is still relatively brand new, which means that they have a lot of different ways to go. They have a lot of things that they can still do and we might be coming up on one of them being put into action.
AEW was founded as a group effort from a team of wrestlers called the Elite. The team, comprised of Cody, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page and the Young Bucks, were popular enough to start up their own promotion and it happened to go national with the backing of Tony Khan. The five of them are the stars of the company in front of the camera and run things behind the camera as well. That means they come together as a unit, but what if that changed a bit?
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this week’s edition of Dynamite included seeds being planted for a heel turn from Page which could see him turning on Omega. This week, Omega and Page won a tag team match over Kip Sabian and Shawn Spears. Around the end of the match, Omega was looking to set up the One Winged Angel when Page tagged himself in and won the match with the Buckshot Lariat. After the match was over, Page was hesitant to hug Omega in celebration. Page has already announced that he was stepping away from the Elite due to his win/loss record. There is no word on when the full turn may happen.
There was a lot to this one. Check out the evidence of the possible turn:
Opinion: This is something that would make a lot of sense and they certainly seem to be planting the seeds for the turn. Page is the least successful of all of the group so far so having him do something like this to mix things up a little would be a good idea. You can only have the team doing things the same way for so long before a change needs to be made and AEW seems to understand that.
