That certainly is a way to look at it. Earlier this month, WWE sent most of its roster over to Saudi Arabia for the annual Crown Jewel event. To say that this did not go well at the end would be an understatement with the wrestlers not being able to get out of the country the day after the event was over. It still is not clear what happened, though the wrestlers are now back safe and sound. What matters now though is getting the wrestlers to go back to the country in the future. Some have said it will not happen, but one certainly has a different mindset.
In a recent interview with the Sun (UK newspaper), Rusev said that he would go back to Saudi Arabia for future shows. This comes after several wrestlers made it clear that they would not be going back to Saudi Arabia after the Crown Jewel situation. Rusev however said that he would be going back to the country for future shows as they make him a lot of money and he loves the trips. This has been one of the major points of the trips for the wrestlers, as the events are paid shows with the talent receiving higher pay than they would at almost any other show of the year.
Rusev has been a big part of the Saudi Arabia shows before. Check out some of his time against some major names:
Opinion: I’ll give him some points for the honesty here. Yeah he’s going for a check, but to be fair, it’s a heck of a large one. The wrestlers do a lot of what they do for the love of the sport but at the same time, it is also about getting paid. If you can make several months worth of pay in a single day, that may be more than worth it financially. It would probably be hard to turn down that level of financial security and there is nothing wrong with wanting to have the extra money for yourself and your family. Yes there are problems with the whole situation, but this can be hard to pass up.
