In a new page on its website, the XFL has put out an application for players. While there is no way of knowing what comes after filling out the application, there are sections listed to place how much experience a potential player has playing football either at the professional or college level at any position. Both sections have options of “none”, meaning that at least to apply, no previous experience is required. The XFL is scheduled to begin play in early 2020.
As bad as this sounds, at least it won’t be this again:
Opinion: The more I hear about this upcoming league, the more worried I am about how bad this could actually be. The extra year to set things up will help a lot, but at the same time there’s only so much you can do with such a mess of a concept. The Alliance of American Football is going to launch a year earlier and probably with most of the talent that this league would want, making me wonder just how low level the quality is going to be in the new XFL. Then again it’s not like you need experience to play there or anything so maybe we’re in for a surprise.
