And NEW! They don’t happen very often, but title changes on television are a really cool thing to see. Every now and then you’ll see someone become a champion on a random episode of television, which feels special in a different way. Pay per view matches are where you expect to see something that big happening but if you do them on a stage that happens every single week, the surprise factor alone can make it a much bigger deal.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Dolph Ziggler became the new Intercontinental Champion by defeating Seth Rollins. The match was an impromptu title defense with Rollins coming to the ring and saying that he loved being pushed the night before by Elias. He wanted to do it again and set up the challenge, leading to the title change. Drew McIntyre helped Ziggler win, which made Ziggler a six time champion, putting him in a three way tie with Jeff Jarrett and Rob Van Dam for the third most reigns of all time. Rollins has already invoked his rematch clause, with the rematch taking place next week on Monday Night Raw.

Here’s how the title change went down.

Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler - Intercontinental Championship Match: Raw, June 18, 2018

Opinion: Now that’s a surprise and not one that exactly thrills me. Rollins was game but ran into a numbers advantage. That suggests to me that he’s going to need a partner and if rumors are true about a certain Lunatic Fringe getting closer to a return, Rollins might just have some backup. If that’s the case, I’d bet on Ambrose turning on Rollins and setting up a showdown at Summerslam. Either way, I’m not sure I see Ziggler holding the title for very long.
