It’s a perk of the job. Celebrities have a history in WWE and that will be the case for a long time to come. There have been a lot of celebrities making appearances in the company over the years with some of them being more successful than others. WWE has one pretty big celebrity around at the moment and he has been getting a nice push. That took a bit of a hit this week, but WWE gave him a safety net.
Back in January at the Royal Rumble, music superstar Bad Bunny, a lifelong wrestling fan, made his debut with WWE. Bunny would immediately be paired with Daniel Priest, who has served as Bunny’s friend and unofficial bodyguard. As a result, Bunny would win the 24/7 Title from R-Truth, who was not happy. Bunny has since lost the title back, but it was through some interesting ways.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Bunny traded the title back to R-Truth in exchange for a Steve Austin title. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Bunny handed the title back to R-Truth because WWE did not want to see him lose. WWE sees Bunny as a huge star thanks to his Grammy win and celebrity status and WWE does not want to see him lose any of his status. As a result, Bunny was able to hold the title during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, which is the kind of promotion WWE wanted.
Bunny has done well during his short time in WWE. Check out some of what he has done:
Opinion: This makes sense from WWE’s perspective as it is rare to have a celebrity with this much star power who is such a huge wrestling fan. Yes you will see some celebrities appear, but how many are big enough fans to want to be back every single week? The title change was hardly a horrible way to go, as the title itself is a complete joke which doesn’t have any real meaning in the first place. They did this right and that is a rare thing to see.
