NXT had to get here eventually. There are a lot of milestones that the Women’s Revolution have reached since its inception. The ultimate moment came earlier this year when a women’s match main evented WrestleMania 35. With that out of the way, there were not very many mountains left to climb. They have already had a Royal Rumble, Hell In A Cell, Money In The Bank and more. With all of those matches out of the way, there isn’t much left to do. So why not go after another company’s signature gimmick matches and have one of those too?
This week on NXT, General Manager William Regal announced that there will be a first ever match for the women’s division. During the show, the Kabuki Warriors retained the Women’s Tag Team Titles over Team Fly Kicks by using Asuka’s green mist. After the match was over, the Horsewomen, Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair and Io Shirai all ran out to trigger a huge brawl. Security and referees were forced to break it up, which prompted Regal to come out and announce the first ever women’s WarGames match for Takeover: WarGames on November 23.
At the moment it is not clear how the match will be set up. So far, the only names confirmed for the match are Ripley and Shayna Baszler, who will serve as the team captains. It is not clear how many wrestlers will be on each team, though WWE has used two four person teams before. During the brawl on NXT, there were six women on one side and four on the other, meaning that either Team Ripley will need a fifth woman or someone on Team Baszler’s side will be sitting out.
There was a lot going on during the show. Check out how the title match went and how WarGames was set up:
Opinion: This is one of those things that you never thought you would actually see (just seeing WarGames in WWE is still such a head rush) but now we are seeing it happen. That is the biggest lesson I have learned in wrestling over the last few years. How many things have you seen that you never would have believed to have been possible just a few months ago? The Women’s Revolution has opened up a ton of doors and it is so cool to see a lot of these things happen. I’m not sure what is left to be done but it should be a lot of fun to see how it goes down.
