Make it phenomenal. AJ Styles is one of the top stars on “Smackdown Live” and in all of WWE for that matter. As a former Smackdown World Champion, he’s no stranger to having gold around his waist. He’s currently the #1 contender for the US Title with a shot at “Backlash 2017”. However, Styles has some bigger plans in mind.

Styles recently spoke with Sky Sports about his desire to make the US Title equal to the Smackdown World Title. In short, Styles thinks that he’s capable of elevating the US Title to a higher level by putting on the best matches in the world. Styles calls it his goal at the moment and that’s what matters most to him.

“I’m excited about it. I think the United States Championship is as big of a deal to me as the WWE Championship, I’m just not in line for that right now and that’s okay. I set goals and being U.S. Champion is one of those and I want to make that Unites States Championship as important as the WWE Championship.”

Opinion: It’s not like it’s impossible. The idea is very simple: if you treat the US Title as something important, it’s going to rise in value. By having former World Champions compete for it, the title feels a lot more important. At the moment we have Jinder Mahal challenging for the Smackdown World Title so it’s not like there’s a steep hill to climb.
