What a weird side business. AEW has gone from not existing to becoming one of the most important wrestling promotions in the world in a very short amount of time. That isn’t the kind of thing that you would expect but they have certainly arrived. Now the question is where they are supposed to go from here, and their latest venture is something you probably did not expect.
AEW has done some interesting things in their first year and a half of existence, from airing a second weekly show to having a podcast to their action figures, plus now announcing a video game. That is quite the chest list for such a short amount of time and it makes them seem like a big deal. Now they are doing something which is a little bit more confusing than anything else.
On Monday, an article was posted on TMZ.com regarding Floyd Mayweather Jr. discussing a celebrity boxing match from over the weekend. The article is sponsored by AEW and seems to be the only article that the company has sponsored on any site. There is no word on why AEW is doing this and the article has no connection to either AEW or professional wrestling in general.
AEW has their hands in a lot. Check out some of what they have been doing as of late:
Opinion: That’s a weird way to get the company’s name out there but if it works out for them then so be it. AEW has had its share of success but their audience, at least their television audience, has not exactly grown. Maybe this kind of thing gets some more eyes on the product, but they need to find a way to get more people watching one way or another.
Will this mean anything for AEW? What do they need to fix most? Let us know in the comments below.
