WWE has today released a statement on cybersecurity after a critical issue found with one of their systems could expose your personal information.
WWE attempt to explain quite vaguely that there has been a problem with their security via Amazon Web Services. The problem will most likely affect over three million other people. The company explains that your credit/key card information and password is safe, but it is possible that other information related to your WWE accounts (Network, Shop and regular site) may have been exposed.
They do clarify that there was no hacking of any sort and the problem is now secured, so there should be no problem. They are working with their associates in Smartronix, Praetorian and Amazon Web Services to ensure the ongoing security of your information while they are investigating. This is their statement:
“Although no credit card or password information was included, and therefore not at risk, WWE is investigating a vulnerability of a database housed on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which has now been secured. WWE utilizes leading cybersecurity firms Smartronix and Praetorian to manage data infrastructure and cybersecurity and to conduct regular security audits on AWS. We are currently working with Amazon Web Services, Smartronix and Praetorian to ensure the ongoing security of our customer information.”
If any more information does come out on this incident, Wrestling Rumors will keep you up to date. We do suggest that while your information is likely safe, if this worries you at all, you should change your password for ease of mind. WWE appear to have everything locked down, though.
A reminder that WWE will be holding the first ‘Raw’ exclusive ‘Great Balls of FIre’ pay-per-view this weekend with a wealth of large matches, as it is reported that WWE are going all-out for ‘Great Balls of Fire’ and ‘SummerSlam’ in an effort to increase ratings, which are a problem at the moment.
Editor’s Note:
I think everyone will be fine, but it doesn’t make you feel good knowing your information could’ve been revealed when you have trust in a company like WWE. It is great that they issued a statement and everything is secure, so everyone got lucky.
