To give some background, players in the NFL have been taking the knee to highlight racial injustice in the world. This was pioneered last year by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick stood up for what he said was both social and racial injustice in America.
US President Donald Trump told NFL owners that they should fire anybody who disrespects the flag, despite protests wanting freedom of speech. Trump himself is a close friend of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
This is what Triple H had to say about the situation, with credit to Express for the transcriptions.
“I speak for myself, personally only, and if it was me I would stand for my national anthem. For my country I would stand, but I and WWE certainly respect the rights of everybody’s first amendment right of freedom of speech, their right to peacefully protest and do what is meaningful to them. Certainly we support that.”
“I question whether there would be a better way to do that, that maybe wouldn’t offend others or something else. Surely we respect that line.”
