Daniel Bryan has been struggling for the past few years to get back into the ring, be it WWE or otherwise. Now, he has new hope.

Bryan’s wife Brie Bella was interviewed on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, where she spoke at length about the situation with her husband.

The following quotes, taken by Sky Sports, are very indicative of what Bryan and Bella have both been feeling among everything that is happening, with doctors telling Bryan he can wrestle.

“He just wishes he was in that ring. I was with him the day he was told he would have to retire due to health issues and for WWE to find a position for him so that he could still be part of the family, for me as his wife, that’s like a dream come true.”

“Bryan has been happy being back. He knows wrestling better than anyone so being the general manager is the perfect position for him.”

“He is (trying to come back to wrestle). Literally from the day they told him he couldn’t do it anymore, he’s been all over the United States and to all different doctors to figure out why and what he can do to turn that no into a yes.”

“He’s being doing oxygen chambers, he’s been doing anything you can imagine. You have to love someone’s passion and his passion is so strong for wrestling.”

“All these doctors are telling him he can wrestle, they don’t see what the issue is. I think WWE are looking at it and that’s why he’s been really vocal lately because he does have hope. They are willing to look at what the other doctors are saying.”

“You don’t blame a company for being careful, and Bryan gets it, he understands WWE’s point of view.”

Fans must keep in mind that there are no current plans for WWE to bring Bryan back. Through doctor approval Bryan will have the ability to compete on the independent circuit again if he desires once his contract with the company expires if they do not renew.

That said, ‘Raw‘ general manager Kurt Angle spoke at length during a Q&A about him being given the go ahead to return and Bryan wasn’t.

“No, it’s not Daniel Bryan’s neck. No, it’s concussions. That’s a serious thing today. You obviously see in the NFL there are a lot of lawsuits being thrown back and forth.”

“It’s a very dangerous thing. I talked to Daniel personally. I passed the physical. I haven’t had an issue with my neck in 12 years.”

“I did break it four times in two years back between 2004 and 2006, but I’ve been fine since. You have a protocol you need to follow.”

“The physical entails a certain amount of things and the most important is the concussion test.”

“Daniel couldn’t pass it. He had 10 concussions that he knows of. That’s huge liability. Can Daniel eventually wrestle? I think he can, but it comes down to him passing the concussion test.”

“I know in time your brain heals, so we don’t know how much damage has been done thus far. Is there a possibility of him wrestling? Maybe, I hope so.”

“I feel bad that he took it personally that I was able to wrestle. He wasn’t mad or upset; he just couldn’t understand how they passed me but not him. But they were two different things”

This would mean that while Bryan is considered to be healthy enough to return, he can’t pass the concussion test that WWE have to ensure all their talent are healthy. If Bryan can pass, WWE may allow him to return to an in-ring performer. If he cannot, it is highly unlikely he will compete in a WWE ring again.
