Update on ‘Broken’ Gimmick, Statement From Impact Wrestling on Matt

If you break it, you own it. The Hardy Boyz returned to WWE earlier this year in one of the biggest Wrestlemania surprises in years. As soon as they came down the ramp, Michael Cole started dropping the Broken references, which made fans wonder if they would be allowed to present one of the most creative stories in recent memory. It wasn’t the case for a long time but now things have changed.

According to SI.com, WWE is planning on bringing something very similar to the Broken characters to the company, possibly under the name Awoken. Regarding Anthem, there have been no new negotiations between Hardy and the company, but Anthem seems to have changed their tune. Here is their statement to SI on the issue:

“We have seen the character development and will be interested to see where they take the concept. Our new talent agreements all incorporate language that allow talent to continue to use their IMPACT persona after they leave the company. We are working with our legal team to amend our existing agreements to extend this to all of our current and former talent.”

Opinion: Honestly, why did this take so long to finally do? What was Impact Wrestling going to do with the characters? Create their own characters to replace the Hardys? I’m glad Hardy gets to do his thing on a big stage, but I’m scared to see where it’s going to go. Can you imagine what WWE might try to put together for something like this?
