Backstage News on a Guest Referee Working the Mahal vs. Lesnar Match

Dave Meltzer provided some backstage news on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio on a special guest referee working the Jinder Mahal vs. Brock Lesnar match at ‘Survivor Series.’

Meltzer noted that WWE is intent on adding a special guest referee to the match. While the company hasn’t settled on who the referee will be, the biggest name going around right now is John Cena. Bryan Alvarez noted it would make sense to set up a storyline between Cena and Mahal in the future.

By default, Cena may get the spot as without naming names, Meltzer said other referees they considered might not want to do the match.

The main goal from WWE in introducing a special guest referee is to put someone in the ring with Lesnar who would be intriguing to see.

Alvarez noted Goldberg or The Undertaker as potential referees, though Meltzer said this is unlikely as both rivalries have run their course and he doesn’t see WWE going back to them.
