Last night at “TLC,” Kurt Angle made his much-anticipated return to a wrestling ring, teaming with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat the team of The Miz, Sheamus, Cesaro, Braun Strowman and Kane in a 5-on-3 Handicap Match.

But how did this come about?

According to a report from PWInsider, the idea for Angle to compete was first proposed on Thursday by Vince McMahon, when WWE realized that Roman Reigns was not going to be able to compete, due to illness.

The “Olympic Gold Medalist” was then given a physical on Friday in Pittsburgh, to be sure that he would be ready to go. Once the physical was passed, WWE made the announcement regarding the substitution.

The report also states that Angle’s return was for one night only, but the door is wide open for more matches going forward.

Editor’s Note:

I don’t care how it happened, I’m just glad that it did. The match last night was not only nostalgic for many of us older fans, but it was a lot of fun for everyone involved in the contest. Congratulations to Kurt Angle for a great night of wrestling action!
