In news that may come as a surprise to many, WWE has released NXT Superstar Kassius Ohno. PWInsider.com has confirmed the rumor.

Ohno, real name Chris Spradlin, made a name for himself on the indie circuit as “Chris Hero” prior to signing with WWE in 2012. He had been high on the radar and was featured prominently on NXT programming. He would eventually be held off television as the company told him to work on his physique, but returned relatively recently.

His last televised loss was a loss to Luke Harper, which aired this past week.

He was reportedly released Friday morning after appearing at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla.
