The logo for WrestleMania 31 has been unveiled at the press conference announcing the location for the event. As previously reported, WWE’s 31st annual extravaganza will be held at Levi’s Stadium on March 29, 2015.
In somewhat of a change from tradition, the logo doesn’t feature the WrestleMania number. Featured in all previous incarnations of the logo, the number of WrestleMania is usually showcased in roman numerals. For example, WrestleMania 30, to be held next year in New Orleans features the numerals ‘XXX’.
Instead, the logo features a ‘play’ icon, traditionally associated with digital media. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon told the San Jose Mercury News that the logo repesents the technical prowess of Silicon Valley, and that WrestleMania 31 will be the ‘most interactive WrestleMania ever’.
It’s also worth noting that the logo doesn’t feature the WWE’s traditional ‘scratch’ logo, instead featuring a redesigned version which was first seen as part of promotional material for the upcoming WWE Network. This may indicate that WWE plan to change their company logo at some point between now and the build to WrestleMania 31.
WWE’s traditional scratch logo has been used since 1998, having debuted as part of the company’s transformation into the ‘attitude’ era.
