Last weekend, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon attended his first NXT live event in person, held just before WrestleMania. The event saw nearly 5,000 fans pack the San Jose Events Center, a legitimate sellout of die-hard NXT fans.
In the newest edition of The Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer gives details to McMahon’s reaction to the event.
While it has been said in the past McMahon has had mixed feelings towards NXT and NXT talent given they aren’t his direct creations, the report notes he was thrilled with how the show unfolded. PWInsider had reported last week he enjoyed the hot crowd, which is true to a degree.
However, all wasn’t great with McMahon. Meltzer notes while he did allow for the event to go longer than expected and offered more pay for the unionized workers, he was unhappy with some of the later chants. As crowds delved into “better than ‘RAW,'” it is said he became uneasy.
Moreover, once the show finished, the crowd proclaimed the NXT event was “better than ‘Mania,” which reportedly made him incredibly unhappy. While it was likely just a ramification of having a WrestleMania-style crowd at a live event, it may not have given him the best impression, despite the success of the show.
Editor’s Note
Take a chill pill. It’s the crowd being the crowd for the sake of being a crowd.
