Not long after re-upping its television contract with Challenge TV in Great Britain, there are already discussions internally within TNA about what it’s next step will be once its deal with Spike runs up.
PWInsider.com reports that while TNA would like to re-sign with the Viacom-owned television station, there is worry that WWE could sweep in with a deal for one of its B-shows and take out TNA from the network. There have been rumors of WWE potentially seeing Spike as an option for Friday Night Smackdown, and even may tape it live on another night.
TNA’s contract with the station runs through October of 2014, and the report claims that the two sides would like to strike a deal within the first quarter of this year to prevent any miscues. However, WWE is also expected to be in negotiations with Viacom during this time, which could eventually create some issues. TNA was bringing in higher ratings for Impact Wrestling when the previous deal was struck between the two sides. However, there has been a noticeable drop in viewership since.
It is also worth noting that TNA does not have any dates booked at Universal for TNA tapings past February, which could lead to more problems in convincing the network of the show’s plausibility.
