About a month ago, Wrestling Rumors reported TNA officials had reached out to former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio about potentially coming into the company. It appears those efforts have not relented.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA talent head John Gaburick tried to get in contact with Del Rio as recently as this past week. Despite his high asking price, the company sees value in him being involved, and is apparently doing whatever is necessary to make him a part of the roster.
Del Rio was released on Aug. 7 for allegedly slapping a social media worker who supposedly used an ethnic slur in reference to the former champion. He was initially told he would only be suspended, but was then fired by surprise. He would go on to sign with AAA and call out WWE for being “racist,” making headlines throughout the wrestling industry.
He has a no-compete clause in the United States for up to a year, though it is expected he will be trying to fight it since it is longer than most other talent’s no-compete clauses with WWE.
