“Impact Wrestling” has far from dazzled in the television ratings circuit as of late, as the company has experienced multiple cutbacks and even almost had its production crew walk off the set. And the future of “Impact Wrestling” on Spike may be up in the air as well.
PWInsider.com is reporting that the United Talent Agency, TNA’s representative for network negotiations, is considering taking “Impact Wrestling” to another network. While no specific network is listed, it is noted that the company won’t merely jump back into a new deal with Spike.
The report is interesting solely for the reason that it appears that TNA does have a degree of leverage in its talks. Spike and its parent company Viacom had at one point been in discussions with WWE to reacquire the rights to WWE programming, though WWE is expected to re-sign with NBC Universal on that end.
“Impact” has been airing on Spike since Oct. 1, 2005 and has been its flagship sports entertainment show since. At one point, the network also showcased UFC, though then moved to cross-promotion between TNA and its new mixed martial arts organization, Bellator MMA.
Editor’s Note:
Well this came out of left field. I would be curious to find out how TNA has any leverage at all in contract negotiations. Maybe it’s not what it seems, and perhaps Spike is looking elsewhere?
