PWInsider.com is reporting that TNA will in fact be headed to New York City this summer to hold television tapings.
The report states that the company will in all likelihood film episodes of “Impact Wrestling” in the city that never sleeps, but may get another incentive as well. It is possible that there may be a pay-per-view taping at the Manhattan Center in the last week of June. The cost of filming in New York is high, though it appears TNA would do multiple-episode tapings as they have done in the past.
It was noted in March that the company was interested in taping at the Hammerstein Ballroom, and was willing to spend big to do it. TNA’s financial situation over the last year has been no secret to wrestling fans, with many talent being cut as it dealt with its new budgetary focuses.
If a pay-per-view is held, it will not be the Slammiversary show, as that is stated for Texas.
The Manhattan Center houses both the Hammerstein Ballroom and its own Grand Ballroom. “Monday Night Raw” taped at the Grand Ballroom when it was first airing in the early-1990s, taping 28 episodes.
Editor’s Note
As long as the company can afford it, this is a good move for TNA. New York City wrestling fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and can turn any television taping into something special. Hopefully, it has a snowball effect.
