Sinclair Broadcast Group, the parent company of Ring of Honor, issued a press release today claiming negotiations with satellite provider DirecTV to renew their carriage agreement are not going very well.
The current agreement comes to end on February 28th, and if a new one isn’t reached by then, Sinclair stations will be dropped from the network. Consequently, Ring of Honor will be one of the byproducts DirecTV customers will not longer receive.
This is eerily similar to the situation last summer where Viacom and DirecTV failed to reach a new agreement in time, causing all Viacom channels, including Spike TV that hosts Impact Wrestling each week, to be blacked out for two weeks. A new deal was finally reached and DirecTV once again renewed service to those channels. However, it doesn’t look like Ring of Honor fans will have such luck.
These negotiations basically come down to money, as noted in the press release Sinclair sent out this week, as they do not feel DirecTV is fairly compensating them for their programming.
Sinclair is encouraging DirecTV customers to contact their provider and demand they work to keep their favorite programs.
