TNA and “Impact Wrestling” surprised its viewers last Wednesday, when beloved former Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong made her return to company television. Kong, who had a brief run in WWE as Kharma, had said her time in TNA had passed in previous interviews, so her return was very much unexpected.
According to PWInsider, the deal to bring Kong in came down to the last minute, and officials weren’t sure if the deal would get done in time for the tape-delay airing of “Impact” on Destination America. The deal got down, however, and she made her debut by confronting Havok.
But the decision to bring Kong in is larger than one person, the outlet says.
TNA is set to put a major precedence on the Knockouts division going forward, with a focus on athleticism and personalities being brought to the forefront. Company officials were said to be very happy with the reaction to the division’s matches on the recent “Impact” tapings, including chants like “better than Divas” from the crowd.
Editor’s Note
Easy and obvious move to make. Unfortunately, women’s wrestling has never been a true draw, but the talent is there in TNA to make it something important. I say go for it.
