With the big announcement that the annual TNA Bound for Glory series will return this year, it got me thinking about who I want to see compete in and every week for a shot at Bully Ray’s World  Heavyweight Championship. I suppose there’s always the chance that Sting takes the title into BFG after this year’s Slammiversary pay-per-view, but come on, let’s be realistic…

The following are my ten picks – in no particular order – of who should compete in the 2013 Bound for Glory Series.

#1 – AJ Styles

Yeah, there’s that pesky little stipulation that says AJ can’t compete for the World title until Bound for Glory – oh wait…UNTIL Bound for Glory! I might be in the minority here, but I love controversial “tweener” AJ. He’s never been the greatest mic worker, but he’s consistently been one of the best wrestlers int he world for the better part of a decade. Unfortunately, the charming babyface that built TNA has gotten kind of stale, and the last thing I want to see for him is a return to more of the same. Styles should compete in the tournament, hell bent on a mission to save his career, and hold no punches in his quest to win. Take this new-found attitude all the way to the end.

#2 – Chris Sabin

Maybe next week’s X-Division title match works out for Sabin; maybe it doesn’t. Whatever the results of that contest with Kenny King are, the bottom line is that this guy has been off television for the better part of two years. He’s had multiple surgeries, months of physical rehab, and to top it all off, his long-time tag team partner left the company. A few weeks ago Chris Sabin made his anticipated return to Impact, and he’s been on an absolute roll. The guy looks great, his mic skills have improved to a passable degree, and his ring style has changed to accommodate his numerous injures – that being said, he’s still one hell of a fast worker. You want to see good wrestling matches in this series? Sabin will deliver against anyone on the roster.

#3 – Christopher Daniels

Bad Influence is one of the best things to happen to tag team wrestling since – well – Beer Money. However, the World title is one of those things that has escaped Chris Daniels his entire career. He’s main event material, and continually carries entire segments of Impact Wrestling on his shoulder, and yet, no super push for the Fallen Angel. This year’s Bound for Glory series is a time to change all that.

Side note: pushing Daniels as a singles star in the BFG series – whether or not Kaz comes down at ringside for support – would allow his tag team partner to return to playing the role of Suicide, who is expected to return shortly.

 #4 – Matt Morgan

The Blueprint has made a very good case for himself in recent weeks – why the hell isn’t this guy in line for the World title? Coming in from the storyline perspective, Hogan would be a fool to not include him in the BFG Series. Morgan desperately needs weekly competition, and the fans need something to wash the taste of that Scorpion Death Lock out of their mouths. Bully Ray vs. Matt Morgan at Bound for Glory might not be the kind of “WrestleMania main event” that sells, but I’d buy a pay-per-view to see it. This guy’s push is way too long awaited, and vastly overdue. Come on TNA…respect the beard.

#5 – Ken Anderson

It would be odd if all the members of the BFG series this year were suspiciously NOT a part of the Aces & Eights faction. More so because they make up half the roster than anything else… Besides all that, Anderson is a decent wrestler who somehow still manages to incite a reaction from wrestling fans, and Impact (hell, pro wrestling) is in short of supply of guys like that right now. Bully will want a foil in the tournament to do his bidding – it makes more sense to give the honor to the a$$hole than anybody else in the group.

#6 – King Mo

Hahahahaha…no.

#6 For Real This Time – Magnus

This guy is freaking awesome, and every time TNA teases that they just might push him to the moon, they go ahead and let the Aces & Eights beat the hell out of him. Seriously, go back through the story – there’s at least three times where Magnus is thought to be a huge aid to the team, only to get jumped like ten minutes later. Quit screwing around and give this guy a serious main event push already.

#7 – Crimson

What the hell happened to this guy? He went on a winning streak for what felt like two years, and then James Storm kicked him in the face, all the way back to Ohio Valley. One superkick? That’s what did it? I’m not a huge fan of Crimson, but TNA’s main event talent pool is so shallow right now that even one big enhancement talent like Crimson would drastically increase my interest in the BFG Series.

#8/9 – Bobby Roode & Austin Aries

Also one of the best things about tag team wrestling today, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries should in NO WAY be excluded from this tournament just because they are, at the moment, working together. If anything, their weekly spats are what makes Impact entertaining. Have them continue to work together, until eventually imploding as a team near the final weeks. Hell, make the finals come down to the two of them, two other guys, and make their inevitable losses be the reason to set up a Bound for Glory singles match!

#10 -Abyss

Like I said…the main event talent pool isn’t all that deep right now. It was actually difficult for me to come up with ten guys I want to see that could legitimate fight for a World title shot. Out of all of them, I’d say only about three or four have a real shot at winning the whole thing. James Storm seems to be TNA’s eternal main event filler, going where they need him, and never really getting a chance to carry the company. His entire World title reign was short lived and only existed to get over his “better half” in Bobby Roode. Sting can’t go anymore – he’s listed as a technicality. Kurt Angle probably shouldn’t be working a full-time schedule, but I’d still like to see him compete. Jeff Hardy is fake injured, and likely won’t be back in the next few weeks. So that leaves us with Abyss, the newly returned monster.

That about wraps up our Top 10 (ish) list. Thanks for reading, and be sure to like us on all your social media preferences, and share this with your friends!
