Ring of Honor Presents: Border Wars
May 4th, 2013
-Tonight’s iPPV kicks off with a video package hyping the main event between new ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe, and the challenger, Adam Cole.
(1) C&C Wrestle Factory def. ACH & Tadarius Thomas
A great tag team opener with tons of offence by all four guys. ACH was by far the most over guy in the match, but Cedric Alexander put them away with a frog splash.
-Team Sexy comes down and makes out in the center of the ring, as Kevin Kelly talks about all the “major offers” that Mike Bennett has on the table from various wrestling companies.
(2) Roderick Strong def. Mike Bennett (w/ Maria)
Mike Mondo was scheduled for this match, but is out with an injury suffered in training. Roderick Strong got showered with streamers when he hit the ring. Maria briefly joins the commentary team during the match, and says the next step for Bennett is a championship match. Strong makes his opponent tap with the Strong Hold, but Maria provides the necessary interference so the ref doesn’t see it. Cheeseburger runs out and grabs Maria, planting her with a kiss and Bennett chases after him. Strong nails him with the Sick Kick for a three-count.
-A video package is shown from ROH TV, where Kevin Steen breaks up with S.C.U.M. and is attacked by the group, and left laying by a Twist of Fate from Matt Hardy.
(3) “I Quit” Match
BJ Whitmer def. Rhett Titus
Nigel leaves commentary and comes back with a pair of referees, who escort Steve Corino away from ringside and to the back. BJ Whitmer locks Titus to the top rope with plastic ties, but Corino makes his way back out. He hands Whitmer a steel chair and turns his back, kneeling on the ground. Before BJ can hit him with the chair, Titus quits the match.
-Afterwards, SCUM hits the ring and beats the hell out of BJ Whitmer, and the Ring of Honor locker room hits the ring to start a brawl, which inevitably leads to the next match. This match has one hell of a stipulation: if SCUM wins, Steve Corino is made the new color commentator for Ring of Honor. However, if they lose to Team ROH, Corino must leave the company for good.
(4) Cliff Compton & Jimmy Jacobs def. Michael Elgin & Jay Lethal Kevin Steen
Lethal takes a hard fall in the match, and hurts his knee leading to refs coming out to check on him. With Lethal taken to the back, Micahel Elgin is essentially in a handicap match. He fights off SCUM for awhile, but eventually the numbers game is just way too much for him. Kevin Steen comes through the crowd and gets on the apron – Nigel tells the ref to include him as a replacement partners; Elgin tags in Steen as the crowd goes absolutely nuts, throwing streamers everywhere in the middle of the match. He tries for the package piledriver on Compton, but Jacobs steals a roll-up victory out of nowhere on him.
-RD Evans and QT Marshall come out and talk about how ReDRagon should be stripped of the ROH Tag Team titles because they didn’t bother to show up to tonight’s event. The lights go out and Tamasso Ciampa comes down, making his return to Ring of Honor. He tackles Marshall, and pulls down his knee pad, but RD Evans pulls him to safety and they escape to the back.
(5) “Die Hard” Eddie Edwards def. Taiji Ishimori
Back-and-forth battle between both guys, which could have really gone either way. Eddie picks up the win with a Die Hard Driver. After the match, Edwards motions that he wants Ishimori’s GHC Junior Heavyweight title.
(6) ROH World TV Championship
Matt Taven (c) def. Mark Briscoe
Two Hoopla Hotties make out on the apron and distract Briscoe long enough for Taven to get the win with a quick roll-up.
(7) Davey Richards def. Paul London
Crazy match. At one point, Davey Richards tries for a double foot stomp off the top rope to the apron, but accidentally lands on his face. London is pretty out after that, and the finish comes shortly after when he comes off the top rope into Richards’ knees for a three-count.
-After the match, Richards says he can be an asshole sometimes, but he wouldn’t be around and Ring of Honor wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Paul London. The two embrace in the ring afterwards.
(8) ROH World Heavyweight Championship
Jay Briscoe (c) def. Adam Cole
Cole works over the champ’s injured leg throughout the match. There’s a ref bump at the end, and Steve Corino makes his way down with a SCUM shirt for Cole, but Nigel has had enough and leaves commentary. He hits Corino with the Tower of London and rolls him out of the ring. Adam Cole turns around and takes the J-Driller from Briscoe for the 1-2-3.
-Briscoe shakes hands with Cole after the match. Adam Cole teases a superkick when his back is turned, but leaves the ring and stomps off to the back looking upset, as Border Wars goes off the air.
