Fox Sports has a lengthy article up discussing Diamond Dallas Page’s “Accountability Crib” and the physical restoration of legendary wrestlers, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Scott Hall.
The article touches briefly on the tragic end of DDP’s wrestling career, his transition into and creation of DDP Yoga, and the opening of the rehabilitation center/home that he has opened to his friends and colleagues. They also speaks candidly with Jake Roberts, who openly admits that he lapsed once while on a trip to Providence, Rhode Island – an incident that left him lucky to be alive.
And finally, the article arrives at the present day: a 50-pound lighter Jake who regrets his retirement in 2011, after a bad match with Sinn Bodhi for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla; a contest during which Roberts “struggled to get up off the mat”. Not surprisingly, “The Snake” wants another go-around and one last moment in the sun, before he retires for good. But the real shocker is that Jake Roberts claims he will participate in the 2014 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
“I’m announcing that right now – I’ll be in the Royal Rumble next year, count on it… I worked too hard in this business to go out that way. So I guess we’re going to have to take a victory lap. I’m definitely coming back.”
Bold words for the former WWF star, who is now 57-years-old. That being said, WWE utilized Robert’s protege (and healer) Diamond Dallas Page in 2012, at 56-years-old leading up to the historic Raw 1,000 episode. Given WWE’s love affair with feel-good stories and mainstream press exposure, it’s not at all out of the question that we may see Jake “The Snake” back in a WWE ring by this time next year.
