It’s that special day of the year—WrestleMania. It’s WWE’s gala event, a combination of big wrestling matches, celebrity appearances, and a scale of production rarely seen in the sports entertainment world. As a hardcore fan, it’s tough not to be disappointed with the card going into the show, given how many dream matches we were inches away from seeing, and the stars who aren’t on the show this year. But come on, it’s WrestleMania.
The Undertaker was back for one more last match, and speculation about it being his retirement contest has gotten to an all-time high. The Deadman’s (potentially) final opponent would be none other than Roman Reigns, the new most divisive figure in WWE. With Roman perpetually set as the company’s next big thing, going against a legendary fan favorite in what might be a retirement match, what would be the result?
Jim Ross was on hand to call the match. Roman came at the Deadman with everything he had, including a multitude of spears before finally scoring the pinfall. That was the result we expected, and there was little surprise to the match.
Following the contest, Undertaker laid down his gloves, symbolizing the end of perhaps the most prolific career in wrestling. He left the arena amid chants of “thank you, Taker.”
