Tonight at WrestleMania 33, history was made when Roman Reigns defeated The Undertaker and handed him his second ever loss at the “granddaddy of them all.” What makes this match even more historic is that there is a very real possibility that this was the final match of his legendary career.

Needless to say, the reaction on Twitter after the match was less than pleasing. Many fans cannot believe that WWE would once again shove Reigns down our throats and allow him to defeat the legendary “Deadman.”

However, I’m about to propose a statement that is going to get a lot of heat and generate much emotion amongst the fans. And here it is.

In my opinion, Roman Reigns deserved the opportunity to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

The Undertaker makes perhaps his final WrestleMania entrance: WrestleMania 33 (WWE Network)

Now, before everyone says that I have lost my mind, hear me out.

For me, the logic behind this is quite simple. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Besides John Cena, NO ONE elicits the emotional reaction from the WWE Universe that Roman Reigns does. Yes, the fans don’t like him. Yes, they think that he has been shoved down our throats for one reason or the other.

But, you cannot deny the fact that he gets one of the biggest reactions from the crowd every single night. And that makes him a star. If the fans really did not want “The Guy” to succeed, they would simply give him no reaction, and this would all go away.

Also, when was the last time that Reigns put on a bad match? He is able to work with anyone, is incredibly fluid in the ring, has a good enough move set, and cuts promos that are believable and fit his character well. He is a reliable competitor, and possesses all of the same qualities as the top superstars in the company’s history.

Finally, WWE has allowed Roman Reigns to be in the main event of their top show of the year for the past 3 years. If they didn’t believe that he fit all of the check marks to be a top star in the company, they wouldn’t have given him that opportunity.

The problem is that many fans cannot understand that just because you don’t like a particular wrestler, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t deserving of everything that they have earned.

I understand that many of you will disagree with me. And that’s OK; having multiple opinions about a topic is what makes wrestling so great.

But, I will always defend the fact that Roman Reigns deserved to defeat The Undertaker tonight at WrestleMania.

You may not like it, but you better learn to accept it: Roman Reigns is the man in WWE, and will be for a very long time.
