There’s one night left to go until WrestleMania, but WWE’s biggest show of the year is for the stars of Raw and SmackDown. Tonight it’s all about NXT, and Takeover: Orlando comes with the promise of excellent matches featuring WWE’s newest superstars. NXT has had a rough go maintaining enthusiasm ever since the draft decimated its roster and its creative team—will this Takeover be what it takes to get the yellow brand back on track?
For a full year, Asuka has dominated the entire NXT women’s division, destroying every challenger to the Women’s Championship. With the loss of all her top rivals to Raw and SmackDown, it seemed no one could end her reign—and that confidence has meant a new attitude from the champ. Ember Moon was the first star in ages who it seemed had what it takes to dethrone the empress, but could she do it?
Ember did what few women in NXT have done before–offer Asuka a competitive match. Moon had Asuka on the ropes, ready to win the match with the Eclipse, until Asuka cemented her heel turn by tossing the ref in the way and coming back for the victory.
Asuka retains the NXT Women’s Championship, and takes home the new title belt.
