Naomi’s sudden title win over Alexa Bliss at Elimination Chamber was unexpected, but not unwelcome. Fans quickly warmed to the new champ with some hearty “you deserve it” chants, and it seemed that everyone was ready to feel the proverbial glow.
Until it turned out that an injury would prevent her from holding that title longer than a few weeks. If you missed the details, the slip-legged moonsault which won her the title also caused a leg injury that would force her to relinquish it.
The injury has been described as similar to Seth Rollins’, and like the Architect’s malady it’s leaving WrestleMania plans up in the air. Naomi was going to head into her hometown of Orlando, Florida as champ and defend the title on the big stage. Now? We have no idea.
Naomi herself is hopeful, though, and responded positively to a question about her status on social media.
Yes doing a lot better but I'm still going to rehab weekly knee still isn't at ? but I still have time to try & make mania I'm not giving up https://t.co/uCqd7Yxu8K

She might not truly be the future of the women’s division, but that doesn’t matter. The momentum was there, and even if she had just a short reign it’s a shame to see a story the fans were interested in derailed because of injury, however minor it might be.
Here’s hoping Naomi is cleared in time for Mania. The open nature of Alexa Bliss’ match means that a surprise return would be even more fun than usual.
