The biggest names in TNA might be on the way out, and could possibly even be on the way to WWE.
According to today’s Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required), the Hardys have yet to sign a new deal with TNA. Their current contract is set to expire this week.
And, as Dave Meltzer notes, they could be returning to the company that made them household names. “WWE is certainly in the ballgame, if not likely.” He says that the Hardys have told people they can’t commit to any dates in May or later, and “that means WWE.” This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that WWE is interested.
That was the talk backstage as of a week ago, so it’s not 100% certain. The true test will be this Thursday, when TNA’s next set of tapings will occur. If Matt and Jeff aren’t there, their appearance in WWE seems to only be a matter of time.
As for why the Hardys might choose to move on, it could be that recent changes in TNA’s management and booking could cause them to lose control of their creative direction.
Control over the “Broken” gimmick was one of the reasons they’d avoided WWE for so long, and if they no longer have that certainty in TNA then WWE’s improved visibility and merchandising possibilities seem far more lucrative.
It’s not certain that WWE would bring the brothers in as “Broken” Matt and Brother Nero, but given the buzz they’ve generated over the past year it seems they’d be foolish not to. Wrestlers on the WWE side are typically not deeply involved with their creative direction, but there are exceptions.
The Hardys aren’t the only ones out from TNA. Drew Galloway also recently announced he would be departing the company.
