In a segment broadcasted on PIX11 on July 31, WWE’s Scott Stanford and “Mean” Gene Okerlund comment on the death of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, his legacy, what he meant to his family, and more. Piper passed away in his home the evening of July 30 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 61 years old.
The WWE “RAW” pre-show analyst and the WWE Hall of Famer discuss the impact of the “Rowdy” one, not only on professional wrestling, but in life. Okerlund opens up the segment by saying,
This one hits hard like the other two, and all of the guys we’ve lost in recent years.”
Okerlund, who worked with Piper for 40-plus years, shared some other thoughts regarding the legacy of “Hot Rod,” saying,
“I think the one thing that’s going to be a big part of his legacy, he kind of sheltered his family from the business, at least until recently. He was a very good father.
He had a son Colt and three daughters, and a lovely young lady by the name of Kitty, his wife and only wife. We hear about a lot of relationships going south in a big hurry but Roddy was very tight and loved his family dearly.”
