The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some insight as to why WWE wanted to sign KENTA, the recently procured Japanese talent that will be joining NXT very soon. The report claims that the biggest reason for his signing is because of the global expansion of the WWE Network, which will take place in 2015.
KENTA is one of the top talents of late to come from Japan, and with the WWE Network reaching Japanese fans next year, the company wants a top star from the region on their programming. Dave Meltzer writes the following in regards to KENTA’s signing,
“It’s clear so far that WWE officials are not bringing KENTA in to fail and from an importance standpoint, it appears there is more to his signing than meets the eye.
KENTA is playing a big part in WWE’s Japanese expansion as it was announced a few days ago that NXT, where KENTA will be going first, will start airing on J Sports, a Japanese satellite channel. NXT was added to the channel due KENTA being expected to be a regular there in just a few months.”
KENTA will be making his move to Orlando, Fla., where the WWE Performance Center is located during the last full week of July. WWE is set to hold a press conference around this time as well.
