WWE still hopes to have “Stone Cold” Steve Austin appear at WrestleMania XXX. A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that the company will be pushing legends merchandise soon, including merch centered around Austin, and that he is one of four big-time WWE names that the company wants to appear in New Orleans on April 6.
The report states that WWE is going to make a big push in the upcoming weeks for legends merchandise based on four big names: Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Ultimate Warrior and Austin. Interestingly enough, WWE is pushing Warrior merchandise more than Mr. WrestleMania himself, Shawn Michaels. It was also revealed that merchandise representing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not be pushed heavily either, mainly due to the fact that he has a deal with the company that gives him a much higher cut of his merchandise sales than others that aren’t currently performing for the company.
They also want to feature the “big four” at WrestleMania XXX, and with Hogan as host, Warrior present due to the WWE Hall of Fame, and the Undertaker facing Brock Lesnar, Austin is the only one that WWE officials haven’t seemed to lock down yet.
As we previously reported, Austin has stated that he doesn’t want to be in New Orleans for the show unless he has a really good reason to be there and will be used properly. Otherwise, he said that he’ll be happy to just watch it from home. WWE officials and creative personnel are said to be still pursuing an angle to get Austin on camera during WrestleMania XXX.
According to this report, the top merchandise sellers in the arenas currently are (in this order) John Cena, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Batista, Sheamus, Hulk Hogan, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar. On WWEShop.com, Cena, Punk, Bryan, Hogan, The Shield, Austin, Lesnar, Undertaker and Orton.
