WWE Injury Update; Hideo Itami, Daniel Bryan, and Sami Zayn Out For Months?
Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update on three of the most serious injuries being discussed in WWE. As previously reported, Daniel Bryan recent surrendered the Intercontinental Championship due to uncertainty surrounding his health.
Hideo Itami was also removed from the No. 1 Contender Triple Threat Match at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.” Itami was supposed to face Tyler Breeze and Finn Bálor in the bout, but due to a fluke shoulder injury, Itami will undergo surgery and may miss six-to-eight months of action.
Sami Zayn injured his shoulder during his “Monday Night Raw” singles match debut. Zayn, who was answering John Cena’s United States Championship Open Challenge during the May 4 edition of “RAW” in his home land, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, tweaked his shoulder during his entrance. Zayn normally hypes up the crowd by waving them on while standing on the ring steps, urging them to cheer. During this spot, Zayn appeared to throw his shoulder out, but would continue to work the match, further aggravating the injury.
Meltzer provides an update on each situation, stating that details surrounding Bryan are being kept very quiet, because they’re very negative, and that Zayn may in fact also need surgery before returning to full-time action. He writes,
“Regarding the injury situation, the company has remained quiet regarding Bryan, but the word going around is things are looking negative. We’re told he’s expected out a long time, and that it is possible he won’t be able to return, but as of 5/18, there was nothing definite medically on him. HHH acknowledged the Itami injury in his press conference call, saying he’d be on the NXT show in some form, but would not be wrestling.
The Itami injury I’m told was a fluke. There was a lot of talk about all the wear and tear a lot of the guys have taken throughout their careers, and no doubt that is the case, but I was told the Itami injury was a fluke and wear and tear had nothing to do with it. HHH said that Zayn was cleared and will face Owens, but the word going around was that Zayn needs shoulder surgery (the locker room talk this week was he was having surgery early next month, but we don’t have that confirmed), so they may do an angle at the NXT show to set that up. Guys can be cleared fully or cleared to do some stuff and being cleared and being able to do what they usually can do are two different things in WWE.”

Sucks. All of it. But injuries happen. We wish all three superstars a full and speedy recovery.
