Wrestling legend George Scott has passed away. Scott, who was well known in the business as both a competitor and a renowned booker, passed away on Jan. 20 at the age of 85.
Scott began wrestling at the age of 17. In the 1950s, Scott and his brother Agnus (known as Sandy) were top draws in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling promotion as the Flying Scott brothers. He also competed in the Carolina territories in the late ’50s and early ’60s.
Scott would then become well-known for being a premiere wrestling booker. He would book matches for Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, WWE (WWF at the time), World Class Championship Wrestling, and WCW. Scott gets the credit for booking the first program between Ric Flair and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, who’s rivalry would go on to become one of the most famous in professional wrestling history. Scott also booked the inaugural WrestleMania event for the World Wrestling Federation during his tenure with the company.
Our condolences go out to the Scott family.
