In a new video message uploaded to the official channel of Mexican promotion AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración), Alberto Del Rio confirms that he is joining the company. As previously reported, Del Rio was expected to appear at AAA’s “TripleMania” on Aug. 17, but it was unsure of whether he would be simply making an appearance or signing to the company. Del Rio claims he’s back home in AAA, and “there was no better place to go.”
Del Rio had worked for AAA prior to joining WWE, who abruptly fired Del Rio on Aug. 6 due to an altercation with a WWE Social Media director. While the altercation stemmed from what some believed to be a racist comment, Del Rio was released because he put his hands on the employee (slapped him to the ground), instead of filing a report to HR.
Many questioned whether or not Del Rio would actually be joining AAA due to many WWE contracts having 90-day “No Compete” clauses attached to them. However, it seems as if this is not the case with Del Rio. TNA also had been trying to contact Del Rio immediately following his release in hopes to have him appear at their next set of “IMPACT” tapings in New York.
AAA released the following video on Aug. 13, which features Del Rio announcing his return to AAA. His 2014 debut will take place on Aug. 17 during the “TripleMania XXII” event at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City.
Translation:
“Hello aficionados of Mexico and AAA, “the boss” is back. What better place to call my home than AAA. Thanks for all the supports, and you guys know there is quality where ever “the boss” is, and there is quality in AAA. There was no better place to go. See you soon and God bless you.”
