The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update on Roman Reigns being groomed to win the WWE title at WrestleMania 31. As previously reported, Reigns is currently labeled as “the chosen one” behind the scenes, and will likely win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Mar. 29 in Santa Clara, Calif.
Initial reports claim that Reigns has been penciled in to win the title from WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at the event. It seems as if this is still currently the plan, but Reigns will now be kept out of the WWE World Heavyweight title picture until January, when the “Road to WrestleMania” will begin to be traveled.
The thought process at this time is that Reigns should not touch Lesnar until the build towards their match at WrestleMania 31. If Reigns were to lose a title match to Lesnar right now, many believe it would be counter-productive to “the rise of the ‘Roman’ empire.”
Likewise, if Reigns were to defeat Lesnar in the next three months for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, many backstage believe that it would hinder the push of Reigns as the next big star. The feeling is the company would be missing out on having a major “WrestleMania moment” in Reigns conquering Lesnar, and that his first title victory occurring on the main stage is the only way to realistically make him for life.
As previously reported, Triple H is wanting Reigns in a championship match against Lesnar at WrestleMania, while Vince McMahon wants The Rock to face off against Lesnar at the event. Many reports claim that Triple H and McMahon have been butting heads on this matter.
Editor’s Note:
Yeah, I bet Reigns wins the title at WM31. Seems the route their going on TV.
