Beginning this week, the first time that new episodes of “NXT” and “WWE Superstars” air on the WWE Network will have changed. Now, on Thursdays, “NXT” will first air on the WWE Network at 4 p.m. EST. On the other hand, “WWE Superstars” will now first air at 5 p.m. EST.
Despite the changes, these two shows will still air at their original and respective 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. EST times. Those showings will just be serving as replays from now on.
With both shows moving up five hours, there has already been speculation as to why the two shows would air earlier in the day. Some believe that it is a sign that “Smackdown” will soon begin airing on Thursday nights.
If “Smackdown” were to air on Thursday nights, WWE fans may have to choose between watching “Smackdown” on Syfy, or the latest “NXT” and “WWE Superstars” action on the WWE Network. However, with the two network programs moving up in terms of its first airing, the problem would be solved, as fans could tune into those programs earlier in the day.
Over the past couple of weeks, there have been rumors of “Smackdown” moving to Thursday nights. It began when a WWE production truck was seen advertising the new timeslot. Things began to heat up when Adam “Edge” Copeland’s “Haven” was moved to Thursday nights, likely to accommodate a new time for “Smackdown.” Also, it’s still not known if TNA’s decision to move “Impact Wrestling” from Thursdays to Wednesdays was a coincidence.
“Smackdown” is definitely moving to Thursday nights soon. Book it.
