Mark Calaway, better known as the Undertaker, has joined the nation in raising funds for ALS research, by answering an Ice Bucket Challenge that was issued by his wife, Michelle Calaway, better known to the wrestling world as Michelle McCool.
On their official Youtube channel, McCool issued the challenge to her husband, who has not been seen on WWE television since his first ever WrestleMania loss via the hands of WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX.
On the same channel, Undertaker, going by his real name, answers the challenge, and proceeds to challenge six others as well, including his son Gunner Calaway and Charles Wright, who previously worked for WWE under numerous gimmicks such as Papa Shango, The Godfather, Kama Mustafa, and Kama the Supreme Fighting Machine.
Calaway performs his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in the dark, likely to remain as “kayfabe” as possible. While he is not appearing for WWE currently, Calaway still embraces his character’s “creatures of the night” philosophy, and films his response to his wife by a cloak of darkness.
Undertaker has made comments about his confidence in an in-ring return being dismal, but Sting has made it clear that he would like to face him at WrestleMania 31. While plans surrounding Undertaker’s return to WWE action are currently up-in-the-air, many believe that a return match with Lesnar would make sense as the next move for the Undertaker character.
Calaway was legitimately injured at the hands of Lesnar on April 6 in New Orleans, when he suffered his first WrestleMania loss. With Paul Heyman constantly reminding everyone that Lesnar is the “1 in 21-1,” a rematch would draw significant money, and has an incredible amount of building blocks for promotion already in place.
You can watch the Undertaker respond to McCool’s challenge in the video below.
