WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk claims that CM Punk will return for WrestleMania XXX. Funk recently sat down with Brian Elliott of Fighting Spirit Magazine to discuss Punk’s recent departure from WWE and if it was the right move or not. During their conversation, Funk claims that Punk will indeed be at WrestleMania XXX on April 6 in New Orleans, because it would hinder Vince McMahon’s wallet if he is not.
Funk says,
“It’s a smart move on [Punk’s] part. If you look at what Vince has done, if someone has drawn him some money they will be on the card at WrestleMania, no matter what has happened between them. CM Punk will be back, because if he isn’t, Vince leaves money on the table.
If being in the last match at WrestleMania is his wish, then he’s going to try and make it come true, the only way possible. He’s put the ball back in Vince’s court, and that’s difficult because Vince has the only court. This is what made it so good about having several places to go [in years past].
Do you think CM Punk worries about the dollars? For all the great ones, it’s not about that. They might tell you that they’re in it for the money, but they’re not – they’re in it for the performance, and so is CM Punk.”
As previously reported, Punk walked out on WWE just before “Monday Night Raw” went live on Jan. 27. Multiple stories speculating on why Punk left have since hit the internet, such as Punk was sick of WWE Creative’s ideas and booking, that he is burnt out and needs rest, that AJ Lee plays a part, and/or that a concussion is keeping him out of action for three-to-six weeks. No one knows the complete truth about why Punk has left the company that made him a superstar, although two anonymous WWE employees have written open-letters to the WWE Universe claiming that Punk is a “little bitch.”
A match with Kane was tentatively scheduled for Elimination Chamber for Punk, which would have possibly led to a match with Triple H at WrestleMania XXX. However, reports claim Punk has not been happy with his booking since he lost the WWE Championship in January of 2013, and that he didn’t feel like a match between himself and Triple H would be big or worthwhile.
