The Intercontinental Championship will be defended at WWE Battleground. During Tuesday night’s Smackdown tapings, it was announced that Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel will face R-Truth at Battleground for the title.
On Monday night’s episode of RAW, Truth defeated Axel cleanly via pinfall. He then told Renee Young and the WWE Universe that he deserved a shot at the Intercontinental strap. On Smackdown, Axel attacks Truth, sending a message that no one should try and take his title away from him.
Later in the show, Vickie Guerrero and company deemed Truth the number one contender for the championship, and booked the match that will take place this Sunday on PPV.
