New reports have provided further speculation on The Rock appearing at WrestleMania 31. As previously reported, it looks as if the former WWE Champion will not be appearing at the industry’s most prestigious annual event, WrestleMania, on March 29.
It was originally believed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be inducted into the 2015 class of the WWE Hall of Fame, then work a match with someone the following night at WrestleMania 31. As previously reported, Vince McMahon wanted the match to be The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar, but Triple H wants Lesnar to compete in a match against Roman Reigns on the “Grandest Stage of Them All.”
Rock appeared on WWE television in the Fall, making a surprise return in-ring appearance confronting the United States Heavyweight Champion, Rusev, and his lovely manager Lana. He then appeared during the “Smackdown 15-Year Anniversary” special, where he had words with Triple H. The two talked about headlining another WrestleMania together, adding fuel to the proverbial “rumor fire” surrounding Johnson and his status for WrestleMania.
However, as previously reported, Johnson will be a busy man during 2015, as he will be starring in a number of upcoming Hollywood blockbusters. He has been cast as the lead voice in an upcoming Disney animated feature-film, as well as the starring roles in “Baywatch,” “Shazaam/Black Adam,” “Central Intelligence,” and “Ballers,” which will be a new show on HBO hosted by the former WWE Champion.
Rumor has it that Johnson may also replace Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming “Transformers” sequel, adding even more food to his Hollywood plate, making his time for WWE returns less and less likely. While no one can say just yet what Johnson’s schedule will definitely be on March 29, many are saying that WrestleMania 31 may honestly be out-of-the-question for The Rock.
Editor’s Note:
He’ll come back at some point to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but it looks like The Rock may just be too busy to enter a WWE ring again anytime soon.
