In a recent street video submitted to TMZ.com, The Rock says he doesn’t think he’ll be at WrestleMania 31. The man filming his interaction with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson asks the former WWE Champion if he’ll be returning for WrestleMania after “killing it” on the Oct. 6 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” and Johnson claims that he doesn’t think so, mainly because then he would be at risk of possibly injuring his money-making face (look out Miz, Rock may be stealing your gimmick…you know the Hollywood gimmick you stole from him).
In the video clip below, Rock is seen leaving a New York hotel just one day removed from appearing during the tapings for the 15 Anniversary “Smackdown” Special that will air on SyFy on Oct. 10. During the taping, Rock engaged in an interesting back-and-forth with Triple H backstage, where the two men tease a bout in the near future, possibly at WrestleMania 31. Recent reports claim Rock is basically a lock for the event, as well as for the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame, though neither report have been officially confirmed at this time.
Reports have also stated that Rock’s Hollywood agents do not want him returning to the ring in loo of possible injuries that may sideline the People’s Champion from filming upcoming movie commitments. Rock suffered an abdominal injury during his WrestleMania 29 bout with John Cena, which pushed back the production of the 2014 Summer Blockbuster, “Hercules.”
With franchises like G.I. Joe, Fast & Furious, and D.C. Comics booking Johnson in upcoming roles, as well as his latest role procured in a reboot of “Baywatch,” Johnson’s agents do not want the second-highest paid actor in Hollywood to risk his future in film by stepping into the ring once more. The only man in “Tinsletown” that made more money than The Rock in 2013 was Robert Downey, Jr.
Editor’s Note:
It’ll be interesting to see what The Rock does. He proved that he will forever be one of the best superstars of all time when he appeared on “RAW” Monday night. Would be a shame to not capitalize on that superstardom at future ‘Manias. This “doesn’t think so” reaction may be just a front for The People’s Champ, his attempt at throwing fans off the “scent” of an impending return in 2015 during WrestleMania season.
