According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sting has yet to sign a WWE contract. Dave Meltzer claims that even though Sting was announced as the pre-order bonus character for “WWE 2K15” during the July 14 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” and WWE has began selling Sting merchandise, the former WCW still has not signed any kind of deal to exclusively work with the company.

Meltzer wrote the following in regards to the “WWE 2K15” advertisement featuring Sting, and his contract status with the company,

“They left the crowd mic’d during the commercial, expecting a big pop, particularly since Richmond is kind of considered more WCW country, although the heyday of Richmond as a major wrestling market was before Sting was a top star. The crowd popped big, but then booed when they realized it was a video game commercial and not a vignette for Sting coming to WWE. WWE also started selling Sting merchandise that night which made people think a deal has been done.

We’re told there is no deal at this point, not that there won’t be because everyone has gone with the idea that it will eventually get done. The Sting marks for the characters they are merchandising was considered intellectual property of WCW, which WWF purchased in 2001, thus WWE believes they have the rights to merchandise it. The sides are still working toward a deal and given that HHH on his weekly interview with Michael Cole talked about the subject and strongly hinted Sting would be coming in says he has to belief the deal is happening.

Years back, Sting was a guy Rock had talked about coming out of retirement to face, but that was roughly a decade back. Sting said that he’s never personally met Vince McMahon. Sting didn’t make the searching trends on Monday, nor did anything from Raw…”

It should be noted that since the advertisement aired during “Monday Night Raw,” Sting has been heavily promoted by WWE on their official website. Sting is the most prominently featured superstar on WWE.com at the moment, and the headline for Triple H and Michael Cole’s weekly interview hints towards Sting’s imminent arrival.

Sting recently spoke with UK’s The Mirror, and claimed that a WrestleMania match with The Undertaker is still his dream match, and hopes the two can meet in the ring on Mar. 29 in Santa Clara, Calif. He also praised Daniel Bryan, John Cena, and The Rock in the interview while claiming it’s “now or never” time for himself working together with WWE.

Editor’s Note:
Seriously? I’m sorry, I’ll report what is said, but do we REALLY think WWE would be promoting Sting the way they are currently on WWE.com if he hasn’t signed some form of contract with them? Would the commercial for the video game not have been enough?! Sting will sell tickets. Sting will sell merchandise. Sting appearing on the WWE Network in a WCW Legends of Wrestling, or hosting a best of WCW DVD would be awesome. SOME sort of deal has been made. The only reason I could see WWE promoting Sting so heavily on WWE.com if the ICON has NOT signed a contract yet is because they’re trying to prove to him that they will promote the crap out of him and push, not only protect, but push his legacy.
