The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some news regarding Kurt Angle and WWE’s relationship. According to the report, Angle may not be welcomed back to WWE because of his health and sobriety issues.
Apparently Vince McMahon is nervous about working with Angle again following Angle’s repeated issues with sobriety and violent tendencies. McMahon has been quoted as saying that, “no matter what, there was not going to be an Olympic gold medalist dying on WWE’s watch.” This would be why WWE didn’t look to sign Angle when his contract with TNA Wrestling was up the last time.
Although Angle has repeatedly said he wants to return to WWE in Sept. once his current TNA deal has expired, whether or not he’ll be welcomed back has yet to be seen. IMPACT WRESTLING began hyping up Angle’s return from a “knee injury” which they claimed would be in five months. However, his contract will expire prior to when they’re claiming he will return. This would indicate normally that they’ve either re-signed Angle, or they’re trying to coax him into signing a contract extension so that he won’t return to WWE or move to Jeff Jarrett’s new promotion, Global Force Wrestling.
Editor’s Note:
I really hope McMahon and Angle can work out something trust-related. I would really love to see the “Wrestling Machine” return to WWE for his last run, retire, and go into the WWE Hall of Fame. I know that he was once on “death watch,” and he’s had multiple issues related to alcohol and his temper, but I really want to see him return. I hope they make it happen.
