News Regarding AJ Lee and Her Time Off

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some news regarding AJ Lee and her time off from WWE. Lee, who has been absent from WWE programming since losing the WWE Divas Championship to Paige during the April 7 edition of “Monday Night Raw, is about to wed former WWE Champion CM Punk in June and has been planning her wedding during her sabbatical.

According to the report, Lee did not request time off for the sole purpose of planning her wedding to Punk as many have speculated, but she asked for a sabbatical just before Punk proposed and things just “worked out” for the couple. Punk has been absent from WWE programming since Jan. 27, and is said to be laying low until his contract expires in July.

However, as previously reported, Lee is expected to return to work following their wedding. Likewise, Punk’s contract could be renewed by Vince McMahon due to a clause in WWE contracts that allow the company to renew deals if executives feel like the superstar owes WWE “more time.” The latest example of this taking place is the latest office renewal of Rey Mysterio’s contract.

Whether or not Punk and Lee planned for her to take the sabbatical so that they could have time to plan a wedding and get married is only known to them, although many backstage believe this to be the case. However, according to Lee and the request of time off before being engaged to Punk, it’s all circumstantial.

I mean…does it matter? They’re getting married, they’ve both been off TV, and it’s going to be a little weird for her when she returns to work and her husband doesn’t. Gonna be a lot of tension in the locker room you have to believe.
