In a recent interview with Brian Fitz of SportingNews.com, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley talks about his upcoming WWE Network comedy special, “Mick Foley: Cheap Pops!” As previously reported, WWE Network has been on hand to film some of Foley’s one-man shows, but never actually put anything together. On April 24, Foley’s “Cheap Pops!” show will be recorded in full for a WWE Network special.
In the interview Foley talks about his excitement for the event, as well as if the content will be rated TV-PG or not. Foley has used some strong language during some of his stops during his stand-up tours, but this show should be appropriate for all-ages.
Foley says,
“I’m really excited. People who have been following me know this is what I’ve been really hoping for, for a couple of years. It really seemed to come together in a really, first class manner.
Now looking back, I’ve glad we waited just because (it will involve) the WWE’s top director, top producers, guys who I’ve worked with and am really comfortable with. We’re pretty sure we’re going to not only capture something special live but turn it into something really special for the network.
This will be the PG version. There will be no guy in a club in Germany story from years past. (laughs) Yeah, I’ll drop the one F-bomb and do it in grand fashion but it’s an all ages appropriate show.”
When talking about the location of the show, which will be recorded at Full Sail University, where “NXT” programming is filmed, Foley says,
“It’s clearly become a hotbed for wrestling and I’m very supportive of the NXT product. So not only do I think we’ll have enthusiastic fans there but I think we’ll have several enthusiastic NXT wrestlers in attendance as well.
I just realized along the way that I don’t want to be chasing away the audience that most likely would enjoy the show. I really found ways to make the storytelling feel fresh every night by reinventing the stories, finding the voice to tell them and then stopping at a certain point and starting all over again as I will do in May.
It’s a performance. It’s not just a bunch of words so I put a lot of myself into these things and I have as much fun as I did in the ring. It’s a fun journey to figure out what’s working, what could be done better, how one word or one syllable might change a story or finding a different way of telling the same story in a way that results in much better reactions.”
